Hello, how are you guys?

Please accept my biggest apologies for the lack of updates, I did not intend to completely die/varnish from the internet…but I truly needed to take a break from any online activity to recenter on my life.

And I am glad I did so.

My health is a lot better than it used to. Life is moving on :)

I am still working to catch up on my delay for school, but I know myself a lot much better. Right now things have gone really, really busy! It’s time for school exams/diploma, student graduation film (two months left), memoir on a film maker, preparations for orals, and portfolios for other schools… (did I say busy?) anyway, those are still a lot of GREAT things waiting ahead. And I’M GONNA FIGHT HUSH! LIKE A WARRIOR.

I terribly miss my comic Paperplane, but this is a break for the best. I have learned a lot since I last updated, and when I come back I will make sure I will pay you back for your wait!

So I must thank you a lot for your patience. I will probably be on hiatus until June (time to make my student graduation movie). I am also planning to clean and tidy my webspace quite soon so it will be easier to follow me, more info on that later ;)

Anyway, for everyone who is in exam/crunch time or just busy with work, never give up!! Remember what you want, be tenacious! Fighting to get it will eventually pay off, in some way, you will see.

Hi Anon! Apologies for the late answer, I wanted to make a good post with a picture for ya. ( ’ 3`)

(NB: tip if you’re looking at this article on my blog: do CTRL + for a bigger font!)

To answer your question, I use thinner nibs than G-pen. I tried it once and it has nice, flowy bold lines. But since I work on A4 usually it’s too big for my lines… It’s great for inking close-ups and big outlines.

Here are all the nibs I use for inking; they’re all different types. Please forgive my horrid handwriting…

ZEBRA maru-pen, softnib.* I’d definitely recommend them over the Deleter one. For years, I hated inking with nibs because of the “screechiness” I got from my Deleter nibs. Ever since I started using ZEBRA nibs, I’ve never been disappointed. Soft maru-pen nibs allow more curvy lines and are good for details.

ZEBRA maru-pen, hard nib.* I bought those two to see the difference, and sometimes I like the hard nib over the soft one because it’s easier to use for me! It’s also more precise/thin than the soft one, and the length of the stroke is shorter. This nib is great for backgrounds.

ZEBRA G-pen. Bold line, good hold of ink, can do both bold and thin lines. A must have.

Tachikawa superior school-pen nib.* I bought this nib after Kazue Kato’s use in Ao no Exorcist, and I like it a lot!! It’s great for details. The length of the stroke is shorter than maru-pen ones, though. Curves are less easy, but I found that it holds ink less than ZEBRA maru-pens.

HIRO LEONHARDT N°700.* Somehow I prefer this nib over maru-pens… I found it in Paris by chance. It’s like a maru-pen with the flow of a G-pen: just GREAT! Its quality really lies in the flow of the stroke. It’s thin, flowy, holds ink well, does nice curves. Perfect.

HIRO LEONHARDT H6.* I was looking for other N°700 and mixed it up with this one. The H6 is “dryer” in the stroke, but is great for small details, thinner than maru-pens.

BRAUSE 66EF. My friend and comic artist rem/tsulala recommended it to me, so I had to try it out… But I can’t use it. :( I think that everyone has a different hold of the pen/nib and different affinities with the material… so definitely try out a lot of things until you find something that suits youand the style you’re going for ! Just remember that the only criteria is how satisfied you get when you draw a single line, and how much fun you have. If inking with a nib makes you screech and frown at every stroke, then it’s time to consider dropping the nib and look for something else.

Anyways, this calligraphy nib is good for thick then thin strokes, if that’s what you’re looking for.

LEONARDT -30-. I don’t really like the handilessness of this nib. I don’t feel very comfortable when I use it, mostly because I feel like the nib will break out whenever I push.

BRAUSE Cito-fein Iserlohn. I had forgotten about this nib, but it’s a very good calligraphy nib. Larger at the tip, it will have the same effect as a G-pen… though less screechy. (Thus more comfortable). I like it a lot.

HIRO 64. Hiro-Leonardt 64’s nib is a very fine calligraphy nib, I had forgotten about it but it’s most nice for line variations! I don’t use it because the ink reservoir is uneven (wow did I write unheaven… OOPS.) and thus kind of risky to use on your drawings… But if you want large strokes, then this nib makes a good job of it.

Added (2013/1/20):

For this pic, I used the nibs HIRO LEONARDT N°700, H6.

Remember that inking depends on different parameters, such as the smoothiness of the paper and the ink you’re using. (I use bristol or manga paper, 135kg thick. Sometimes I ink on normal paper or even printer paper and it’s good enough.) You’ll want to use different tools depending on the paper/ink/result you want.

So remember there is no rule except this one : experiment until you find something you like and that fits you !

If you’re a nib-a-holic like me, have fun when you go in an art store and pick up whatever looks good to use. ;) I hope this helps.

Hi guys! Just a heads-up on when the comic will be first updated.

On Jan 15th, I’ve just heard that I probably won’t have internet/computer all day (until 12am my time (GMT+1)).

Do not worry though!

I need a few hours to clean the website from the countdown layout and to set up the comic back, but I’ll get back to you eventually.

Happy new year !! <3 I really want to thank you guys for putting up with me until now.

(oops, to read the entire entry push the CTRL + buttons once on my blog… it might help a bit.)

2012 is now over, and until last it had been a really tough year for me. Mostly because of stress, anxiety, health, and an overwhelming/undecisive lifestream. For these reasons, I haven’t been able to draw much nor to be present online at all.

BUT!!!! People I knew were there to keep me on going and newly met people were so sweet it made me really happy ;_;

I DEFINITELY want to make positive changes in this new year 2013.

After celebrating the end of the year, it’s time to have a new start. To get HARDCORE with what I really want and to think positively with everything!! To listen to my aspirations and goals better and take a step, even small, towards them! FIGHT!

This new year’s first goals:

take care of my health. Take daily treatment(s) without fail, sleep early, daily exercise.
draw everyday. Have fun drawing, make it a habit. Keep more than one sketchbook, daily. Draw from morning to night, before bed. Take bigger and bigger challenges, and always enjoy what i do! There’s always a way to make a drawing interesting, even on the plainest subjects. Get more productive!
challenge myself. Draw environments, backgrounds, perspective. Draw items and cars. Draw both illustrations, sketches and colored stuff. Draw more full body poses, different kind of people, etc. Watch videos and draw from them, analyze from life and other kinds of art! Be creative via challenges and extend knowledge!
get and stay in touch with people. This past year it’s one of thing I missed the most, I feel so sorry for delaying emails/sms/calls etc. :(
stay positive. Read positive entries and diaries, stay motivated. Destress and learn to breathe. Drink more tea and chill out with friends more often.
keep on comicking. For one day at least in the week, do comics and only that.
spare money. Learn to keep money for necessary use, school, health, etc. Be more responsible.
rely less on others. Be more independent! In both decisions and actions.
no more overthinking. Take the time to take one step back, and see the thing from another perspective, when in doubt. And then be straightforward in action. Complete self-fixed tasks and goals!
post more online. Be efficient: post when needed and know when to turn off internet to avoid lurking/procrastinating. Stay active!

In my projects goals for this new year…

keep my paperplane comic going, no matter the mistakes. It can always be fixed afterwards.
aim for schools and do portfolios from enjoyment. Think of less pressure, but only as sort of a “game”.
do my best with my student graduation movie, finish it and chill out when doing it. Make it a pleasure rather than an obligation. Make it an experiment and a real experience.
finish my very late commissions/art trades/etc asap
read more. Novels, books, comics, everything.

Get the best out of all these areas!

THIS IS GOING TO BE FUN. I hope this blog will help me hold all those goals and witness my progress.

Since I did not produce much, here’s an old, unedited picture I drew during the manga teenager workshop with Moto Hagio (February 19th, 2012). (´ー｀)

The subject was to create a cover from her They were eleven scenario basis (“In the future, there are 10 students from the outer space gathering in the exam final step in a spaceship. But they soon discover they are 11 ! Who’s the intruder ?”).

It was a lot of fun, considering that we were provided the same materials she used for comicking and that she was present, drawing herself and showing how she made a quick cover. What was important for her was not to make it look pretty, but rather give a meaning to the illustration. “Recreate 11 students, they can be different looking. Be creative !”

We could see the works of the japanese teenagers hung onto the wall - as the same workshop took place in Tokyo, one month before. It was pretty interesting to see the difference : Tokyo teenagers were a lot more influenced by manga styles, as part from their everyday life. A lot of them drew fanarts. But Paris’s teenagers had “more conceptual ideas, and different styles” as said Hagio-sensei.

Even though the drawing skills were still “fresh” for most of the entries, I truly admired every each of them for the power of their creative ideas. By the end of the workshop, we could get a direct feedback from Moto Hagio. She told me : “wow, that’s amazing ! You drew so many different types of people. There’s even a centaur… That’s very pretty. You have a quality in your strokes; it’s very flowy and thin. I can see that you’re used to draw manga. Am I right ?”

I really got to learn a lot from Hagio-sensei. Meeting her and hearing her speech, her perspective on manga literally changed my life.

I’m very grateful.

I hope that later on, I’ll also be able to also share that love for comics, stories and sequential art to everyone around me.

HI GUYS

I AM ALIVE!!!

~~I was waiting for the day after the end of the world to post that~~ ahaha actually not really. Fact is, I just entered my christmas vacation week. School had been a killer since September, and as I sunk into my massload of work and depression, I didn’t get to draw nor browse internet much. (Preparing a graduation film by myself + stress + utter stress + bad time management => a bit too harcore…) (￣Å￣;;)

But good news : I am now preparing my come back for the end of the year and the upcoming year. Catching up with my late work, drawing, buddies and living. ;) This dark and gloomy period of the doom is NOW OVER !!!

Which all means… more posts and more things to come from my personal projects… ( ^▽^)σ uehehehe…
You can already start looking forward to it. Because it’s ALL GONNA COME PRETTY SOON !!! This is the start of a new life era, right ? ;P

Hi, I got it through a friend who lives in Korea ! I had to pay much more for the fees to take it to my country (but soonkki’s sign… is priceless…. *wheezes*). CHEESE IN THE TRAP IS JUST SO GOOD. sob.

Omg I love your art!! I really like how you have a strong drawing foundation in your works and you are combining it with illustration/manga style at the same time. I am having trouble in choosing the right pens/method for inking my art, can you suggest some tools you find useful in your experience?

By experience, I’d try a bunch of inking pens. At first i used to just draw with pencils, but then I tried micron pens like Pigma microns / unipin. I wouldn’t recommend using Rotring ones because I find them mostly expensive and with a too short life.

Try finding smooth ones. Ones that you can keep because you’re feeling comfortable with it. The quality also depends on the kind of paper you’re using, but try to get ones with a very black ink (if you’re using black to ink) and ones that won’t disintegrate everytime you erase your sketch lines ! I’d definitely recommend Pigma because the line is smooth, it’s comfortable, the ink is waterproof and black enough. It’s not too expensive, either.

(Though, note that some people like having hard lines but i find smooth tools to be just more comfortable to use. And it gives less head scratching, much less hair loss.)

Otherwise, you could find some nib pens to ink with. I personally enjoy using japanese Tachikawa maru-pen. Or any other calligraphy nib pens (Brauser for example), because some can be really nice. Just try out anything you feel like would be nice to use whenever you go to an art store. Remember also to try out different types of inks / paper. Depending on the material you’ll have a different feeling and maybe you’ll find what you like the most.

Some people use brushes (like martre, the tip is very nervous so it allows great detail). You can even create your own tool, using bamboo stick or the whatnot.

One word : experiment !

Eventually you’ll find one tool you like and stick with it. Some schoolpens are nice to use also, even cheap stuff can do. :) Ballpoint pens are also one kind of tool you can use to ink as well. There are so many possibilities, good luck with finding something you like !

The fact is that i’ve been good enough since my teens- and would’ve improved so much more rapidly had my study been in the service of any of those projects- and not in the dozens of sketchbooks pilled in my closet.

Lesson: Don’t use “learning” as an excuse to avoid “doing”.

just a small message to say that it’s been two weeks I’ve started school again.

So.. I’m sorry for the lack of updates !

Right now things are a little hectic with my graduation project that I have to work on… and basically everything else. I need to clear out some things in my life and make my path clear. This might take some time before I get to update things again, so I’ll ask you to bear with me ! ;; <3
